TV Shines a Light on Children’s Yoga

A sigh of relief and and feeling of happiness washes over me as I feel deep appreciation for the way the Universe delivers the goods.  Today was the video shoot for the Morning Show interview on WUSA channel 9 News.  The story:  Yoga for Children.  Though I was mostly relaxed, I was worried about those unknown elements; Would the crew be open to what we were doing?  Would the children want to participate?  Would I be able to get into my natural flow with kid’s yoga?

The videographer,  Kevin, walked in my friend, Reva’s house to do the piece, while upstairs the ten children and I were tuning in with Ong Namo, Guru Dev Namo.  After introductions, Kevin said, “Can you do that chant again?  I’d like to capture it on video.”  I was awestruck that he wanted to film the part of yoga that many people shy away from (chanting).  And in that moment, I knew it was going to be a GREAT shoot.SONY DSC

The boys and girls who demoed “school yoga” ranged from 7-11, and we had some little ones too…18 months and 3 years, who showed Fly Like a Butterfly Yoga.  One of the high points was the Rainbow Dragon game where all the children crawled through the downdog rainbow, adding to the rainbow.  Even the little ones had fun with this.

Flow is the best word to describe what happened today, and the natural ending of the shoot….everyone in their favorite pose chanting “I Love Yoga!”

Thanks to Reva Hamilton who seems to always flow into my life at just the right time, to Mary Beth Quick of heartandsoulyogava.com who brings heart and soul to children in Fairfax Co, VA, and to Bridget Lusky of yoga2grow.com who does the same in Prince William Co, VA….and to the beautiful kids who volunteered to miss school today (big sacrifice, I know…) so they could shine a light on children’s yoga.  And last but no means least…Pam Diggins, who made all this happen.

Check out our “shine” tomorrow, Jan. 23rd, WUSA Channel 9, VA/MD/DC.  We’ll post the web link afterwards….on Radiant Child Yoga Facebook and our site too.
