Tribute to my Family

Dec. 26th marked Kartar’s and my 35th wedding anniversary.  We got married at Winter Solstice celebration in 1977 with 8 other couples on the Kundalini Yoga/Sikh Dharma path.  We had known each other, worked together in the Ashram natural food store, for exactly one year.  Our first kiss was under the pine trees in central Florida after the wedding ceremony.  After what seems like another lifetime, one of free love and “anything goes”,  we came to this spiritual path and lived another life.  In the new life, the relationship between partners was innocent, pure, and sacred.  We got to know each other intimately before we were intimate.  We shared dreams, visions, spiritual longings, and had a lot of fun bantering back and forth–getting to know the soul, getting to know the human, getting to know the couple that we’d be for many years to come.

On Dec. 26, 2013, I sat at a table in a fine Italian restaurant with Kartar on one side, and our son, Ram Das, on the other.  We had gifts for each other.  Mine for Kartar was an amazing spiritual art book and a funny card with a kitty cozying up to a beagle (caption: “And yet…it works! expressing my sentiments on our marriage perfectly.)  Kartar’s gift was a beautiful smokey quarts and rhodechrosite bracelet I had eyed in the Kundalini yoga bazaar.  His card was like him…poetic, lofty, wise, and sweetly loving.

Then Ram Das surprised us with a card and a gift.  What he said on the card was the true gift for me, though I was also touched that he wanted to go halves on paying for an Abraham-Hicks cruise for us.

But the card!  One to add to the small pile in my top drawer and read again many years from now.   Since sharing his words may inspire others, I think he will be fine with me quoting him here…..

“I am ever thankful that I have such a steady relationship as a model for my own.  Thank you for your lessons in acceptance, love, kindness, and collaboration with/for a significant other.  All I can wish for as a witness is that my relationships may be in the footsteps of yours.”

And to all who read this….May you be blessed now and ever with true relationships, true love, and true happiness!
